Johannesburg - Nonhla Thema is back. She might
have gone to Hollywood, but since her brush with Tinseltown, Thema has
been flying under the radar, save for a few unseemly Twitter spats.
This December, she returns to the small screen with a soapie debut on Mzansi Magic’s Zabalaza.
Thema
plays the character Kgomotso, the pregnant, unwanted, nagging
girlfriend of Moss Cele, played by Matli Mohapeloa. She replaces Nolwazi
Shange, who originally played the character, and will continue
Kgomotso’s journey as she attempts to marry into the Cele family who are
the focal point of this lokshin soap opera.
“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to join the cast of Zalabalaza,” said Thema.
“Not
only is the show first of its kind in the genre of Lokshin soapies but
the cast have done a great job of bringing a township story right into
the homes of viewers all over the country. It is going to be wonderful
to be part of that.”
Thema is no stranger to
television, but this will be her first major acting role. In the past,
she has made her name as a presenter and host, with a number of music
orientated shows like Oboma and Divas Divine under her belt.
Her
semi-scripted, reality show, Nonhle goes to Hollywood, saw her rubbing
shoulders with US celebrities and was the second most popular TV show
ever screened by the Vuzu channel on DStv.
Since
then, however, Thema has mostly courted controversy, most notably
through a Twitter war in which she insulted YFM radio DJs and boasted
about her wealth. - Tonight Reporter
